Secure Shell, commonly known as SSH, is a cryptographic network protocol used to execute commands on a remote machine or to exchange information between a server and a client. Since the data exchanged by the two sides is encrypted, a 3rd party simply cannot intercept it, which makes SSH a favored means of controlling a website hosting account. The commands that could be executed depend on the type of hosting service. On a shared hosting server, for example, the choices are limited as you shall not have root access to the server, so you may simply create/move/delete files, set up and unpack archives, export and import databases, and so on. These are all actions which are performed in the shared hosting account and don't need a higher level of access. By using a virtual or a dedicated server, you'll be able to install server-side software or to restart the web server or only a certain service (web server, database server, etc.). SSH commands are submitted through a command line, but if you don't use a UNIX-like OS, there are a lot of applications for other OSs, that you can employ to connect to the remote web server as well.

SSH Telnet in Hosting

SSH access could be enabled with a mouse click via the Hepsia Control Panel if the hosting plan which you have selected includes this feature by default. If not, you could include it via the Add Services/Upgrades section of your CP and enable it instantly. You will find all the details which you need inside the SSH section of the Control Panel - the host, the port number and the username that you have to use, along with detailed Help articles in which we have listed all of the commands you can use inside the account and examples of the syntax you have to use. The SSH password may be modified from the exact same section anytime with a couple of mouse clicks. As long as SSH access is enabled, you will also be able to connect safely through an FTP client as well. With an SFTP connection, each of the files which you upload will go through an encrypted connection.

SSH Telnet in Semi-dedicated Servers

You will be able to connect to your semi-dedicated server account via SSH irrespective of which plan you select when you sign up. With some plans, the feature is provided as standard, and with others, it could be added as an optional upgrade for as long as you need it. You shall find the required login info in the Hepsia Control Panel, included with all accounts - the host/server name, the port number and the login name. You will be able to choose the password which you'll use and if you want to, you may change it all the time with a few clicks for even better security. You will be able to see all the commands that you may use beforehand, because we've listed all of them alongside examples of how they are used in order to carry out a particular task. The moment SSH access to your semi-dedicated server account is enabled, you'll be able to use an FTP program and establish an SFTP connection.

SSH Telnet in VPS Servers

All our VPS server plans provide SSH access by default, so you will not need to include any upgrades or activate anything - as soon as the server is set up and you receive its login information, you shall be able to connect via its primary IP address and the login credentials that you've selected through the signup procedure. Since the VPS accounts include full root-level access, there are no restrictions in terms of the commands that you can run. Your server will be isolated from the other ones on the physical machine, so you'll be able to manage virtually everything using a command line, including server-side software installations and reboots. That way, you'll be able to work with your files, databases and any applications you install in a fast and protected way.
